Student Bloggers: Cameron and Jordan

Today, Cameron Barrow and Jordan Smith are sharing some experiences from our trip so far.

During this missions trip I have learned a lot.  I feel like we have been here forever but it’s only been a short time and hard to believe it’s almost over.  Working on the new homes for some of the families has been really fun and I am glad that I am able to help others with some of there needs.  At first I thought that I would have no interest in the children’s ministry part and I only really wanted to do the physical labor but since I have started helping the kids, I wake up excited to meet them the next day.  Going to help these kids is not all about bringing each of them to Christ but displaying Christ like attitudes.  I have met a lot of kids and have bonded with a few of them.  Its sad to only work with them one day and go home knowing you wont see them again but at least you know you made an impact and showed them that there is someone out there who cares about them.  It is not as much about huge things like building homes or donating money but small things like just showing a child the love of Jesus in your heart and letting them know that we care about them.

The last couple of days have been a real reminder that no matter how bad a situation is you can always find good in it. While I was on this trip I had a long conversation with a nine year old apache girl. She was one of the most optimistic little girls I have ever met. During our conversation she told me about her brother who has just recently become a drug addict. Then she told me about her mother who tells her everyday that she wishes that she had got an abortion so that she would not have to look at her face any more. As me and the little girl continue to talk I asked her about all of the band-aids that she had on her face. She told me about her dad and how he gets drunk every night. After he is completely drunk he goes in this little girl’s room and yells at her over and over again. Then finally he looses his temper and begins to hit the little girl repeatedly. When she told me this I was on the verge of crying. At that moment I told her that I know a father who will never lay a hand on her, and that his name was God. When I finished giving her my testimony and what I have gone through we took ten minutes and just prayed together. And by the end of that day that little girl fully understood what Jesus had done for and she had asked him to come into her life. The moment that really touched me is when she asked me if we could pray together for her dad and family.

Thanks for sharing Jesus with these precious children! They will never be the same . . . and neither will you!
