Tory’s Blog-
The day before I left to go on this trip I was questioning if I really wanted to go. I didn’t want to miss my family and my friends. Not seeing them for eleven days I thought would be really hard and not texting them would be even worse, but then I realized that I really had no choice at this point in time. In the past ten days, I’ve learned so much more than I thought I would. I’ve learned more about others as well as myself. There have been many times when I just wanted to go home, but there have been many more times when I just wanted to stay for a while longer. Working at home is never fun or enjoyable, but when you’re working with friends for the needs of other people, it’s great. Today I had the job of cleaning up the dishes after dinner and it was so fun, but then I realized that I’d never see any of the people that I have met on this missions trip ever again.

My experience at the reservation has taught me a lot. The first day we arrived in Arizona, we were living very comfortably at the Wang’s home. I was ready for anything and everything God had planned for me. It wasn’t until we arrived at the church that my outlook changed. I was ready to leave because the living conditions didn’t fit what I thought they should. I called my mom, and she reassured me that God had a plan and purpose for me, and that it was very important that I pray. So I took the time to pray and God dropped in my spirit that I was being materialistic. He showed me that in order for me to minister to the destitute I had to change my heart. Now, I will forever hold this experience in my heart.

This trip really opened my eyes to see just how bad things really are over here on the reservation. It is hard to believe this could happen in the U.S. Even though, the kids seemed really happy to see us, and they all greeted us so nicely. They were all so happy to have someone play with them. The physical work was fun, too. All week I was either doing touch-up painting after the first part of our team did the general painting on the houses, or I was hammering nails in the new shed. It was a great experience, and I’m glad I came.
